Sri Lanka's national meteorological delegation visits the south China sea oceanographic office on jan 24, 2018. [photo/xinhua]In order to promote the cooperation between the sri lankan meteorological bureau and the south China sea Marine institute in the field of Marine meteorology, director Sarath Premalal of the south China sea institute of oceanography was appointed as the visiting professor of the south China sea institute of oceanography, and deputy director du yan of the south China sea institute of oceanography presented the letter of appointment to director Premalal.
During the visit, the sri lankan national meteorological delegation visited the state key laboratory for tropical Marine environment (LTO), the Marine scientific instrument library, the china-sri Lanka center office and other departments.Shi ping, director of LTO, introduced to the delegation the major research directions of LTO, Marine environmental observation data system, Marine observation instruments, etc.Dr Lee shoi-tin made a progress report on the research of the Marine meteorological forecasting system around Sri Lanka.Mr. Premalal, director of the sri lankan meteorological office, thanked the china-sri Lanka center and LTO for their invitation and warm reception, and had an in-depth exchange of views with LTO scientists on the Indian Ocean region SST intrasonal oscillation (MJO).The delegation hopes to strengthen cooperation with the maritime institute of the south China sea in the areas of tropical Marine meteorological forecast and tropical Marine environmental observation.The delegation also exchanged views with sri lankan students in the master of Marine science program at the south China sea institute of oceanography to encourage them to study hard.
The sri lankan delegation also includes the deputy director of the meteorological office, senior officials of the meteorological office and the dean of the school of science at the university of peradeniya.
